Opening a Meditation Session

Even though nothing special is required for meditation to occur and the best meditation is nonmeditation, what means, spontaneously and naturally abiding in the primordial state, it is always wise to humbly recognize one’s condition and apply any required method to establish and sustain that state.

In this way, sitting in any of the three-point, five-point or seven-point postures (see table on the right side) is recommended. Generally, a firm but comfortable position is the general rule and the eyes open are the best, to avoid sleepiness and wandering.

– STOP ! – Don’t change anything, just perceive and let it be, allow the body, emotions and mind to be as they are
– Be aware of your body in the moment
– Be aware of your breathing in the moment
– Be aware of your eyes, your gaze
– Be aware of what you are looking at
– Be aware of your emotions and thoughts

– Back straight
– Sitting in a Chair
– Hands on knees or thighs

– Back straight

– Hands on knees, lap or thighs
– Shoulders relaxed but spread
– Mouth closed

  1. Legs crossed
  2. Hands in the lap or on the knees
  3. Back (spine straight)
  4. Shoulders spread like a vulture’s wings
  5. Head and Neck (chin slightly lowered)
  6. Mouth (tip of the tongue touching the palate)
  7. Eyes (gazing past the tip of the nose
