A Preparation for Meditation

As an automatic process, breathing keeps the key for us to enter in touch with the unconscious mind. At the verge of consciousness and the unconscious lies the natural state, timeless, nondual, pure awareness.

Just being mindful of breathing is enough for a good meditation practice. However, being realistic, in our everyday life is not easy to pinpoint and sustain the natural state of empowered peace.

In this way, deep breathing constitutes a simple yet extremely effective method to clean our being from negative emotions and obscuring thoughts (see table).

For better results, a complete breathing happens through the nostrils, tightens the abdomen when exhaling and dilates the abdomen and ribs when inhaling

It is possible to capture any tensions in body, emotions and thoughts with mindfulness, then inhaling to intensify it, releasing it completely when exhaling.

Paradoxically speaking, the attitude here is of non-action, of natural abandonment, where there’s no one doing nothing. The best of the best is to merely be mindful of the breathing, without altering it.
